Welcome to our live and interactive coverage of the 2017 Formula One season.

Today the action is coming to us from the Red Bull Ring where the drivers will battle it out for pole for the Austrian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton looked in superb form topping the timesheets in FP1 and FP2 but five-place grid penalty for an unscheduled gearbox change ended his hunt for pole before it really even began.

That opens the door for Valtteri Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, who was quickest in FP3, to put their car at the front of the pack.

Red Bull will be hoping to spring a surprise or two on their home turf and while pole might be unlikely, getting in and amongst the Mercs and Ferraris on the grid will set them up nicely for a run at the podium tomorrow.

Hamilton can start at best sixth in Sunday’s race after being hit with a five-place grid penalty for an unauthorised gearbox change.

Mercedes discovered a problem with Hamilton’s gearbox after the previous race in Azerbaijan and informed governing body the FIA on Tuesday, but the issue became public only on Friday evening at the Red Bull Ring

Teams have to run a gearbox for six consecutive events but Hamilton’s has had to be changed before that period expired.

Even without the penalty, it looks like Mercedes have a serious battle on their hands with Ferrari this weekend, with Vettel impressively fast throughout final practice after struggling on Friday.

Mercedes said Hamilton’s problem with be rectified before qualifying, which starts at 13:00 BST.

Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas was third fastest, 0.423secs slower than Vettel but 0.096secs quicker than the second Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen.

The Grand Prix heads to Europe as the next bout of F1 action takes place over the weekend in Austria, with the main race set to take place on Sunday. Read on for all the details.

The Formula One World Championship 2017 season is fully underway, with twenty confirmed events on the calendar, including the recently completed Grand Prix in Baku won by Daniel Ricciardo, with Valtteri Bottas taking second and Lance Stroll finishing third.

Next up is the Austrian GP in Spielberg from July 7 – 9 where the excitement is sure to continue as the drives showcase their cars and skills.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel still leads the drivers championship with 141 points to his name 12 ahead of second placed Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton who has 129 points.

Mercedes have had to change the unit before it has completed its mandatory six races, with the matter referred to the stewards on Friday evening.

A grid demotion of five places is the automatic sanction when gearboxes are changed out of sequence.

It means that Hamilton, who was fastest in both Friday practice sessions in Austria, will start Sunday’s race no higher than sixth.

He may be on $30million a year plus bonuses but that’s not going to count for much this weekend for F1’s bad boy du jour.

Whichever side you take in the Baku ram-gate debate, you’ll be watching Vettel to see if he shows any genuine contrition for his stupidity in Azerbaijan, or if he’s going to make a silly German sausage of himself again.

The 2017 Tour de France will finally cross into the Grand Est region via Luxembourg on Monday, giving the punchers a chance at a stage win.

The peloton will travel 214 kilometers as part of the Tour de France’s Stage 7 on Friday, beginning at Troyes and ending at Nuits-Saint Georges. It’s an uncomplicated stage with one Category 4 climb at Cote d’Urcy.

Friday’s stage will begin at approximately 6:05 a.m. ET, with live television coverage in the United States beginning at 8 a.m. on NBCSN. That coverage is also available streamed online via NBC Sports or the NBC Sports App.

The only way to watch the stage from the start is to subscribe to NBC Sports Gold, which will go live with coverage at 6 a.m.

This is the last chance for a sprinter without a win to earn one before the break. It’s a long stage but one without many surprises. Any mistakes made on this stage should come solely from the rider.

There is enough road after the Category 4 climb for any sprinters who fell back to recover and gain the lead down the final 10-20 kilometers of the stage. The end of the stage is flat and straight, and sprinters should have no trouble taking advantage.

Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch: Two incredibly talented drivers who are currently in the top-5 of the standings while piloting consistently fast cars this season. The difference? Keselowski in the No. 2 Ford is locked into the 16-driver playoffs with two 2017 victories, while Busch is still winless in his No. 18 Toyota through 17 races.

But these two stats about the history of the NASCAR Cup Series at Kentucky Speedway shows why there’s a good chance one of them will win the Quaker State 400 on Saturday night.

Since the 2011 season, there has been one annual race at the track, producing only three winners. Two are Keselowski and Busch, and the third is Matt Kenseth — who won in 2013 — but that’s it. Keselowski took the checkered flag in 2012, 2014 and 2016 while Busch finished first in 2011 and 2015
